1967 Shelby VIN 67200F5A01683Description prepared by Bill Collins on August 27, 2002.AUTHENTICITY: Genuine ’67 Shelby GT350 fastback serial number 1683. Original VIN plate. Shelby VIN is stamped into right fender apron. The 7R02K Ford VIN numbers stamped into the inner fender aprons have been observed and tracings made. This GT350 is listed in the Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC) World Registry 1997 Edition, pages 662 and 735. Copies of the dealer order form and factory copy of the window price label are intact, together with an original owner’s manual HISTORY: Produced at Ford’s San Jose, CA assembly plant and shipped to Shelby American in Los Angeles for completion. Completed by Shelby April 21, 1967 and shipped June 30, 1967 to J.D. Ball Ford, Inc. in Miami, Florida. First known owner is Rolando Hurtado of Florida. Later owned by Mark Krudup, also of Florida. Entered Pennsylvania September 13, 1990. The first known Pennsylvania owner was Barry Baldwin of Gap, PA. This Shelby was inspected by Bill Collins on February 19, 1993 at Ed Sielski’s Performance Center in Downingtown, PA on behalf of John Kirshner of York, PA who purchased it at that time. The car was in its present state with the Paxton Supercharger and air conditioning installed. On July 27, 1998, it was acquired by Glenn Auchey of Hanover, PA. Bill Collins purchased the car from Auchey on June 11, 2002. CONFIGURATION/CONDITION: Odometer displays 32,225 miles as of this date. It is unknown if this is the actual mileage; it is believed to be 132,225. The exterior was repainted Candyapple Red several years ago from the original Dark Moss Green Metallic color. This Shelby was built with center mounted grille lights and a two piece grille. The hood is an all fiberglass unlouvred style. The deck lid is also entirely fiberglass. The lower brake scoops are functional. The order form indicates that it was to be originally equipped with “standard wheels”. It now has a set of original ten spoke wheels, installed some years ago by an owner. The spare wheel is also an aluminum ten spoke, but is a reproduction. The tires, including the spare, are Goodyear Eagle GT+4 P215/60HR15 radials. All Shelby exterior equipment, unique identification and trim are intact. A right side exterior mirror has been installed, its style matches that of the left side remote mirror. The engine compartment is moderately detailed and is painted gloss black. The export brace and master cylinder cap have been chrome plated. The hoses, clamps, belts and electrical components are mostly OEM style replacements, including an Autolite script battery. The power brake system and power steering system with external cooler are intact. The brake proportioning valve has been replaced with a modern unit and relocated from the rear of the car to the engine compartment. The air conditioning system is complete and functional, with a modern rotary style compressor which has an identification label from Classic Auto Air of Tampa, Florida. The engine utilizes a replacement block. It is believed that the short block, although built up for performance, is a standard rather than factory high performance 289 block due to the presence of a standard thickness vibration dampener and lack of a 7R02K stamping. The heads are factory high performance code “21”. The intake is an original “Cobra” lettered aluminum, and the distributor is a factory Autolite dual point with C5OE-E engineering number. A Paxton Supercharger, S/N # “SN60V47679788” has been installed. The carburetor airbox is lettered “Cobra”. The radiator support has been cut for the opening to the canister style air cleaner. A performance camshaft has been installed, producing an aggressive sounding idle. The camshaft is believed to be a hydraulic lifter type. The transmission is a replacement 4-speed toploader, code “RUG-S”. This code represents a large spline unit as used on big block GT500’s. It was apparently installed to handle the increased torque and power of the modified and supercharged 289. The original nine inch non-locking rear axle with 3:89 ratio is intact. The axle tag reads “DSO C7ZX-A 3:89 7C8960“. The original factory high performance exhaust manifolds connect to a stainless steel, non-original style exhaust system with two flow through type mufflers and original style tips. The rear shocks are Koni brand, and the fronts are believed to be Koni as well. The black interior is largely original. The dash pad and door panels have no cracks. The front seats have been recovered but lack the chrome backrest accents. The carpet is in good condition. The foldown seat is intact and there is no damage or modification to the interior panels. All of the Shelby equipment is intact, including the roll bar and shoulder harnesses, wood steering wheel with correct GT350 center cap, underdash gauges, 140MPH speedometer, 8000 RPM tach, and factory shifter. All gauges and accessories are in working order except the clock. The radio has been replaced with a modern AM/FM/cassette unit. The speakers are hidden in their factory location behind the grilles in the doors. There has been no cutting of the interior for speakers. Factory style air conditioning has been installed in the dash. A chrome Halon fire extinguisher has been mounted on the floor between the front seats. The interior of the trunk has been finished in matte black undercoat. It contains a reproduction mat, jack bag and spare tire cover. A modern style jack has been installed, with an original handle. The metal panels that back up the taillight housings are missing. This is a Shelby that has been mechanically and cosmetically changed over its history but has not been restored. The outer body metal is original with exception of the left rear quarter panel, which has been replaced, cut at the beltline. All other outer body metal appears to be original and is in good condition, being quite straight and having good fit and proper gaps between panels. All fiberglass appears to be original. The paint is older and in good condition with good smoothness and shine. Two paint flaws are noted, a short crack at the top of the right front fender and atop the left side of the deck lid. The underside metal is original except for the right front floor pan, which has been partially replaced. The floors are undercoated. This Shelby has been built with a single (right) side torque box, a practice routinely done by Ford as observed on other 67’s. All structural areas including the torque box, frame rails and shock towers are in good condition. The trunk floors and rear structural areas are sound. The exterior bright trim is in very good condition. The rear bumper guards are missing. All window glass is original, but the windshield has been replaced with a PPG brand unit. The weatherstrip is somewhat deteriorated. The car starts readily and runs and drives well. The supercharger and camshaft deliver substantial power, making for big block style acceleration. Handling and road manners are good with stable steering and suspension. The power assist to the braking is working properly and the car stops straight. All lights and signals are operational. The transmission shifts smoothly. The air conditioning and stereo both work. This Shelby has passed current Commonwealth Of Pennsylvania motor vehicle safety inspection. OBSERVATIONS: Because of the variety of changes from as originally built, this is a Shelby for the driver as opposed to the enthusiast or collector who prizes originality and adherence to factory specifications in their vehicle. But I assure you that one romp behind the wheel will be convincing of this car’s particular appeal! With the bite to match its ragged idle bark, this GT350 delivers the goods. If you fantasize about driving like “Memphis” Raines in “Eleanor” in the film Gone In 60 Seconds, this is your car! And with the air conditioning, you can be hot and cool at the same time! PRICE: $45,000. Shown by appointment at my facility in Middletown, PA. |
